Greetings!

If you visit http://topicmaps.com, you will notice a new home page that
announces the site is under renovation.

It hasn't been maintained for some time and I am attempting to correct
that problem.

A some thoughts about priorities for site renovation:

1) First and foremost, current content about topic map standards,
products and news. Maintained current content.

2) At least at this juncture, since we have two mailing lists and a
Facebook page that are little used, I see no need for yet another
discussion forum in the renovated site. If we aren't using channels we
have now, why open another one?

3) Ditto on a topic map server for displaying topic maps. If you have a
really clever display of a topic map, create a screencast of it in
operation. Otherwise we will spend a lot of effort on a server with a
default and quite uninteresting display of your topic map. Not exactly a
great promotional tool for topic maps in general or your topic map in
particular.

4) Topic maps of current events or interest are especially welcome. One
can imagine the "Are You Lonely Tonight? / Taylor Swift" topic map for
example.

(your thoughts and comments go here)

Hope everyone is at the start of a great week!

Patrick

PS: The rise of big data and the clash of semantics across information
systems is a perfect use case for topic maps. Even more so than when the
effort started. Couple that with the Semantic Web's decision that it is
"really" about Coke machines (The Internet of Things) connected across
the Internet, there are no other likely contenders to resolve the
resulting semantic confusion.
