TMQL actually has support for variants:

"has-variant" isa function .

Never sure whether it would have been sufficient, though. My original
plan had been to change the function's name in the last minute to

  get-these-freaking-wartisants-but-never-complain-about-the-name

to subtly discourage its use.

So many good ideas never come to fruit.

But +100 to bury wartisants in some closet.
