<H2>Recommendations of November 2005 Meeting of WG3</H2>
<H4>1. FCD 13250-2: Topic Maps -- Data Model</H4>
<P>WG3 instructs the Editors to respond to National Body comments in <a
href="0naito.htm">Nnaito</a>. The Editors are further instructed to
incorporate the decisions taken at the Atlanta meeting, summarized
below, and submit the document for FDIS ballot before December 20
2005.</P>

<P><EM>Summary of decisions:</EM></P>
<LI>Move the subject identifiers defined in Clause 7.5 into a new,
normative Annex A with the title "Subject Identifiers for Defined
Terms", which is introduced by the following text:

<P>The following subject identifiers are defined, in accordance with the
recommendations of the OASIS Published Subjects TC, for the sole purpose
of enabling unambiguous reference to the subjects they represent, for
example in order to enable the collation of information about those
subjects. This International Standard attaches no processing semantics
of any kind to these identifiers, over and above those associated with
subject identifiers in general.</P>
<P>Note: Implementations are strongly discouraged from attaching their
own processing semantics since this will impair interoperability.</P>

<P>The namespace for all these identifiers should be:<BR/>
<TT>http://psi.topicmaps.org/iso13250/glossary/</TT></P>

<LI>Change the namespace of all other (model-specific) PSIs to:<BR/>

<LI><P>Perform any minor adjustments to the text as necessary in order
to reflect the changes to XTM 1.1 described in the next
section.</P></LI>

<H4>2. FCD 13250-3: Topic Maps -- XML Syntax</H4>
<P>WG3 instructs the Editors to incorporate the decisions taken at the
Atlanta meeting, summarized below, and submit the document for FDIS
ballot before December 20 2005.</P>

<P><EM>Summary of decisions:</EM></P>
<LI>Remove the terms "deserialization", "serialization", and "XTM
document" from Clause 3, and a create subject identifier for the term
"XTM" in a new, normative Annex A. Use the same text to introduce this
Annex as in Annex A of Part 2. Change the definition of "XTM" to:
"the standard, XML-based interchange syntax for topic maps".</LI>
<LI>Change the namespace of the XTM 1.1 vocabulary to:<BR/>
<TT>http://www.topicmaps.org/iso13250/xtm/</TT></LI>
<LI>Change the namespace of all model-specific PSIs (i.e., those
already defined in the current draft of Part 3) to:<BR/>

<LI>Make the following changes to the XTM 1.1 syntax in order to bring
the vocabulary and model in line with Part 2:

<LI>reverse the order of <EM>subjectIdentity</EM> and <EM>instanceOf</EM>
in the content model for <EM>topic</EM></LI>
<LI>remove the <EM>variantName</EM> wrapper element</LI>
<LI>require <EM>instanceOf</EM> on association, occurrence, association
role, and topic name elements</LI>
<LI>restrict <EM>role</EM> elements to containing a single (required)
role player</LI>
<LI>remove nesting of variants</LI>

<LI>Modify Annex E to contain the following:

<LI>An explanation of why the namespace has been changed from XTM 1.0:
viz:
<UL>
<LI>to harmonize the syntax and data model, and to remove ambiguities,
and</LI>
<LI>to purge the version number from the namespace, in order to
make it more persistent.</LI>

<LI>An overview of the difference between XTM 1.0 and XTM 1.1.</LI>
<LI>An XSLT style sheet for transforming XTM 1.0 documents into XTM 1.1
documents. Untyped names, occurrences, associations, and association
roles in XTM 1.0 documents should be tranformed to typed constructs that
use the PSIs defined for that purpose in the XTM 1.0 specification.</LI>

<H4>3. FCD 13250-4: Topic Maps -- Canonical XML Syntax</H4>
<P>WG3 appoints Lars Marius Garshol as co-editor of CXTM and instructs
the Editors to respond to National Body comments in <a
href="0615.htm">N615</a>. The Editors are further instructed to
incorporate the decisions taken at the Amsterdam meeting into a new
draft and submit the document for FDIS ballot.</P>
<H4>4. WD 13250-5: Topic Maps -- Reference Model</H4>
<P>WG3 instructs the Editors to incorporate the decisions taken at
recent meetings into a new draft and circulate it to National Bodies
before March 1 2006, with a view to conducting an intensive working
session at the WG3 meeting in Seoul.</P>
<H4>5. CD 18048 Topic Maps -- Query Language</H4>
<P>WG3 instructs the Editors to incorporate the decisions taken at
recent meetings into a new draft and circulate it to National Bodies
before March 1 2006, with a view to conducting an intensive working
session at the WG3 meeting in Seoul.</P>
<H4>6. CD 19756 Topic Maps -- Constraint Language</H4>
<P>WG3 instructs the Editors to respond to National Body comments in <a
href="0naito2.htm">Nnaito2</a>. WG3 further instructs the Editors to
prepare a response to National Body comments arising from the current CD
ballot and to incorporate the decisions taken at the Atlanta meeting
into a new draft to be circulated to National Bodies before March 1
2006.</P>
<H4>7. NP Compact Syntax for Topic Maps</H4>
<P>WG3 appoints Prof. Sam Oh, Gabriel Hopmans, and Lars Heuer as acting
editors, and requests the Korean National Body to submit an NP
for CTM, based on the text drafted at the Atlanta meeting, for immediate
ballot.</P>
<P>In addition, WG3 encourages the Topic Maps community to put forward
proposals in advance of the Seoul meeting.</P>
<H4>8. NP Graphical Notation for Topic Maps</H4>
<P>WG3 appoints Prof. Jaeho Lee and Graham Moore as acting editors, and
requests the Korean National Body to submit an NP for GTM, based on the
text drafted at the Atlanta meeting, for immediate ballot.</P>
<P>In addition, WG3 encourages the Topic Maps community to put forward
proposals in advance of the Seoul meeting.</P>
<H4>9. Appreciation to Michel Biezunski and Empolis</H4>
<P>WG3 requests that SC34 express thanks and appreciation to Michel
Biezunski for his kind offer to donate the domain topicmaps.org to
SC34 on behalf of WG3.</P>
<P>WG3 requests that SC34 express thanks and appreciation to Empolis
GmbH for kindly donating the domain topicmaps.com to SC34 on behalf of
WG3.</P>
<P>Assuming that the transfer of topicmaps.org to SC34 can be
accomplished before December 20th 2005, WG3 will use this domain for all
namespaces and PSI sets that it publishes in connection with ISO 13250
and other Topic Maps standards. Failing that, the domain topicmaps.com
will be used for this purpose.</P>
<H4>10. Appreciation to Steve Newcomb</H4>
<P>WG3 requests that SC34 express its thanks to Steve Newcomb for
providing a projector for the WG3 meeting, and to IDEAlliance for
providing the meeting room.</H4>
<H4>11. Next WG3 meeting</H4>
<P>The next WG3 meeting will be held on May 29-June 1 in Seoul, Korea,
in conjunction with the <I>Asian Topic Maps Summit</I> that is being
planned by the Korean National Body for June 2-3. Further meetings are
provisionally planned for Montreal, Canada in August 2006, in
conjunction with the Extreme Markup conference, and in October 2006 in
Leipzig, Germany, in conjunction with the Topic Maps Research and
Applications (TMRA'06) workshop.</P>
