You *can* do that, just as you can do it with base names, but in both
cases you lose the grouping information. If you have two portraits of
T.E. Lawrence (one when he was 5 and one when he was 35) and multiple
variants of each (colour, black&white, small, big, different formats,
etc) you would be able to find the small versions, but you wouldn't
know which of the big ones it was a rendition of.
