"variant"-axis is from slide 15, the type filter "pseudonym" I just made up as an example of how a variant with type filter would make no sense.

I'm confused. Where did you see variant::pseudonym? I can't find "variant" or "pseudonym" in the presentation at all. (I'm assuming you're referring to http://www.itscj.ipsj.or.jp/sc34/open/1324.pdf )
